How much have you drunk?

The NHS recommends that men drink no more than 3-4 units of alcohol per day, and that women drink no more than 2-3 units. They also say that to keep healthy, we shouldn't drink this amount regularly - meaning most days of the week. But how do you keep track of how much you're drinking?

People with alcohol-related illnesses aren't necessarily alcoholics or binge drinkers - many are social drinkers who have regularly drunk more than the recommended amount. When you're out, it's not easy to keep track of how much you're drinking. How do you find out how many units there are in your drinks? Luckily, there are all sorts of ways to find out.

BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat have an excellent Booze Calculator. Input the drinks you're having and it'll tell you how many units you're drinking, the calorie content, how much you're spending and how long the alcohol will take to leave your system. Check it out here.

Drinkaware have tools to help you work out how much you're drinking. They have a unit calculator here, tips on cutting down and you can also sign up to MyDrinkaware, a diary to help you track your drinking.

The NHS have a calculator to find out if you're drinking too much, but also have an alcohol tracker that you can download to your desktop and a free iPhone App so that you can keep track of your drinking on the go.
