Not drinking alcohol doesn't mean you have to stick to boring drinks or fill up on pints of Pepsi! Whatever the occasion, there will always be people who don't want to drink, but you don't need to miss out on fantastic alternatives!
We have recipes for different kinds of non-alcoholic drinks: cocktails, smoothies and shakes, winter warmers and summer coolers.
They're mostly easy to make, and we've stuck to recipes that use widely available ingredients. (The most unusual ingredient is probably grenadine - pomegranate or other red fruit syrup.) Some recipes don't give exact measurements - keep the ratios constant and make as much or as little as you wish, for you or for a crowd. The great thing about non-alcoholic cocktails is that you can experiment to your heart's content, so try altering our recipes or create some of your own!
Remember: drinks with fruit juices or sparkling ingredients should be served immediately.
Looks good!
Preparation and presentation are important when creating non-alcoholic cocktails. Nice glasses, straws, long spoons and lemon/orange/lime slices are more or less essential. You could invest in specialist equipment such as a cocktail shaker, ice bucket and tongs, strainers, mixing spoons or fancy glasses - or you can keep it simple and make and serve drinks with what's to hand. As long as it looks good and tastes good, it doesn't matter what you use!
Many of the recipes call for cracked or crushed ice. Ice crushers are available but you can easily make your own: put ice into a plastic bag, cover the bag with a towel and smash until the pieces are either cracked or crushed!
Some recipes require a 'measure'. You can buy a bar measure, or just use a shot glass or an egg cup instead.
Great places to visit
If you're near Lancashire, you may be interested to visit Mr Fitzpatrick's - the last remaining Temperance bar, originally founded in 1899! Those near Manchester may like to visit the Alcohol-Free Shop. Both also have excellent online stores.
