It is dangerous to drink and drive.
Every drink affects how you drive. Alcohol impairs your coordination, your eyesight, your judgement and your reaction times.
In 2010, 14% of deaths on the road were caused by drink driving. Many more people were injured.
In the UK, the legal limit is 35mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. (Police can also test your urine or blood.)
There is no guaranteed way to drink and stay under the drink driving limit. The levels of alcohol in your body are affected by your weight, gender, age, metabolism, health and what you've eaten.
If you drink in the evening, you may still be over the limit the next morning.
You do not need to be involved in an accident or driving erratically to be stopped and tested by the police. If you are caught drink driving, you will:
- be fined up to £5000
- banned from driving for at least 12 months
- be sent to prison for up to 6 months
Drink driving isn't worth the risk. Don't drink and drive.
