Volume measures the amount of pure alcohol in a drink.
The ABV (alcohol by volume) of a drink should be displayed on every bottle or can. The ABV gives you an idea of how strong a drink is.
You can calculate the number of units in a drink when you know the volume:
Strength (ABV) x volume (ml) ÷ 1000 = units
How alcohol affects you, and how long it takes to process, depends on your sex, age, weight, health and metabolism.
'Alcohol: Volume' is available to buy as part of our KS3/4 alcohol leaflets pack and KS3/4 alcohol posters pack. Visit our Literature store to find out more.
