Cocaine

Cocaine is a stimulant drug, which gives a quick 'high' lasting 15-30 minutes.

It usually comes as a white powder made from the coca plant and is  'snorted', but it can also be injected or swallowed. 

Cocaine is also known as 'crack' which is the smokeable drug.It is called 'crack' because of the noise it makes when it is heated.

The effects of cocaine are extreme; the 'high' is short-term so users take more to prolong the effect.

Risks include: increased heart rate, body temperature and breathing rate; raised blood pressure. Long term use can cause heart problems; depression; anxiety; damage to the lining of the nose; Hepatitis or Aids from shared needles.

Cocaine is a Class A drug. Possession can carry a maximum prison sentence of 7 years. Supplying can carry a life sentence in prison. Both punishments can also carry an unlimited fine.
