Ketamine is a depressant and comes in two forms - Medical and Street.
Medical Ketamine is a clear liquid manufactured as an animal anaesthetic and used by vets.
Street Ketamine however, is illegal and usually comes as a white powder, but can also be capsules or tablets. It is usually inhaled through the nose (snorted) but can also be injected or swallowed.
It affects the central nervous system causing loss of sensations such as pain.
Ketamine is a highly psycholigically addictive drug - the user may not have withdrawal symptoms but psychologically will want to keep taking it.
Risks include: hallucinations; blackouts; depression; injury - due to no sensation of pain; fear - as unable to move, walk or talk even though fully awake.
Ketamine can be lethal if mixed with alcohol.
Ketamine is a Class C drug. Possession can carry a maximum prison sentence of 2 years. Supplying can carry a maximum prison sentence of 14 years. Both punishments can also carry an unlimited fine.
