Nicotine

Nicotine is a highly addictive stimulant found in tobacco.  It is as addictive as heroin or cocaine!

It is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream when smoked and is just one of over 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes.

One cigarette contains approximately 10 mgs of nicotine. For each cigarette smoked only 1-2 mgs of nicotine is absorbed into the lungs - the rest is lost into the atmosphere making it Second-Hand Smoke/Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS)

Nicotine is absorbed through the lining of the mouth when people put tobacco directly into their mouths, as with chewing tobacco.

Risks include: increased blood pressure; stroke; heart disease; cancers - such as mouth, throat and lung; emphysema. 

Those who start smoking before the age of 21 have the hardest time kicking the habit.

Tobacco is a legal drug but it is illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18.
