Rohypnol

Rohypnol is a depressant - and is the original date rape drug.

It is colourless, odourless and tasteless making it ideal for spiking drinks - it acts very quickly when mixed with alcohol. Anyone who has had their drink spiked with Rohypnol is unlikely to remember what has happened to them.

Rohypnol relaxes the body and gives a feeling of euphoria which makes it popular with 'ravers'.

The effects of Rohypnol are felt within 10-30 minutes and can last for several hours depending on the amount used and if other drugs have been taken.

Rohypnol has many effects on the body, including: making a person lose inhibitions; suffer memory loss. High doses can lead to a sleep from which the user cannot be woken.

In the UK Rohypnol is only available on prescription - it is illegal to possess it without a prescription.

Rohyponol is a Class C drug. Possession can carry a maximum sentence of 2 years. Supplying can carry a maximum sentence of 14 years. Both punishments can also carry an unlimited fine.
