Countess of Carlisle

History

White Ribbon members from around the UK came together on 15 January 1976 to mark the Centenary celebrations of the Organisation. Many illustrious women were members of the White Ribbon, including Lady Henry Somerset, Rosalind, Countess of Carlisle and Mrs Margaret Bright Lucas (sister of the John Bright, the famous politician and social reformer) to name but a few. A booklet entitled ‘A Century of Service’ was published to mark the Centenary and has been re-printed.

Whatever building we have occupied for our Headquarters has always been named ‘Rosalind Carlisle House’. Our current premises in Solihull were opened on 9 September 2006 by her Great-Granddaughter – Mrs Joanna Matthews.

The White Ribbon Association is moving forward with public relations work, seminars, informative materials covering the effects of alcohol, drugs, smoking and gambling. Magazines and Newsletters are published for members and an Annual Council meeting is held each Spring.
