How alcohol can affect a family
Heavy drinking can be a common factor in family break up. Parents who misuse alcohol can have a huge psychological effect on children. Alcohol misuse can be linked to domestic violence. An individual's alcohol problem can result in disputes with family and friends and can eventually lead to the breakdown of these relationships. Debt can be linked to an individual's alcohol problem, when alcohol is purchased rather than paying bills.
Effects of alcohol on the personality
Alcohol can change a personality from a person who is:
- Clam to Anxious
- Relaxed to Aggressive
- Organised to Erratic
- Confident to Paranoid
- Focused to Unpredictable
- Happy to Depressed
How to spot a drink problem
Possible signs that there is drink problem in the family are:
- Hiding drinking
- Starting the day with a drink
- Using drink to deal with stress
- Taking time off work for hangovers
- Difficulty getting or keeping a job
Think of the risks and consider the consequences!
