Heavy drinking can be a common factor in family break up. Parents who misuse alcohol can have a huge psychological effect on children. Alcohol misuse can be linked to domestic violence. An individual's alcohol problem can result in disputes with family and friends and can eventually lead to the breakdown of these relationships.
