About cocaine
Cocaine is a powerful Central Nervous System stimulant. It is generally sold on the street as a fine, white powder. In powder form it is sniffed or snorted up the nose.
Pure cocaine is called Crack because it makes a crackling noise as it is smoked.
Cocaine is not a cheap drug and it is expensive to maintain a regular intake. Many users resort to other crime to fund their drug use.
The risks
The high from cocaine only lasts one to two hours, which makes the user want to repeat the dose.
Repeated doses can cause:
- Extreme states of anxiety or paranoia
- Bizarre, erratic and violent behaviour
- Vertigo
- Muscle twitches
- Paranoia
- Hallucinations and delusions
- Depression
When users take cocaine for a long period of time, the high is replaced by:
- Insomnia
- Restlessness
- Paranoia
- Hallucinations and delusions
- Depression
Users who inject the drug risk infections from dirty needles and hepatitis or AIDS from needles shared with others.
The Law
Cocaine is a Class A drug. It is illegal to have, give away or sell If you are caught in possession of Cocaine you could be sentenced to up to 7 years in jail. Supplying Cocaine to someone else, including your friends, can get you a life sentence and/or an unlimited fine.
Think of the risks and consider the consequences!
