About heroin
Heroin is a highly addictive drug, which comes from morphine and is taken from the opium poppy.
Heroin is a depressant drug and it affects the brain's ability to perceive pain.
Heroin can be used in a variety of ways:
- Injected
- Smoked in a water pipe
- Snorted as powder
The risks
- Slowed and slurred speed
- Vomiting
- Droopy eyelids
- Poor night vision
- Constipation
The short term effects of heroin abuse appear soon after a single dose. Thoughts become clouded due to the depression of the central nervous system.
Long-term effects of heroin appear after repeated use for some period of time. Constant users may develop infection and liver disease.
Street heroin may contain additives which can cause damage to the lungs, liver, kidneys, or brain. This can result in serious infection or even death.
The law
Heroin is a Class A drug, and if you are caught in possession it can lead to 7 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
Supplying Heroin to someone else, including your friends, can get you a life sentence and/or an unlimited fine.
